Substance abuse is a diverse problem which affects nearly all cultures of the world; this global problem is well defined as a maladaptive pattern of recurrent use of chemical substances that extends over a period of time, leading to notable impairment and continues despite occupational, psychological, medical, and spiritual consequences whereas continued use leads to addiction or dependency. Substance abuse related problems are caused by multiple factors and can only be treated and corrected through a multidimensional approach. Substance abuse is treatable, and for that to happen, intervention is required.

Extended Care often confused between long-term addiction treatment facilities and extended care treatment programs, which are different phases of treatment for addiction. Typically, extended care programs are initiated after an individual completes a treatment program at a treatment facility. The principal differences between the two programs are success rate, accountability, staff qualifications and freedom

Sober Living Homes mainly focuses on a very strict set of guidelines and rules that the residents has to follow, and generally most of these programs require random drug screens and alcohol tests. These tests make a way for the integrity of the sober living programs to be protected and make sure that one resident who relapses does not negatively affect the other residents in the program. No doubt that sober living programs do have a cost involved. These programs usually involve a small community in one residence, and each resident is expected to pay for their share of the expenses. In addition many sober living programs have other expenses involved, such as the required substance screenings and the cost for any required continuing therapy or counselling.

Young adults or adolescent alcohol treatment can be a considered as bit trickier than trying to help an adult quit drinking. Definitely any Adolescent have their long lives ahead of them and feel like they probably have a few more years to mess up and they can always catch up later. They may not have had enough time drinking to have had enough tragedies happened because of their alcohol abuse. They may not see the potential for messing up their lives so badly. They could have seen what happened to other people, but think that it will never happen to them.

Gay Lesbian Bi-Sexual Transgender programs are focused on research that focused on creating a safe and welcoming environment for LGBTQ people is an essential component of successful recovery. Often many treatment programs in the U.S. tend to fail to provide this. When individuals are in the “closet” while in treatment, they are often not successful at treatment; instead, they are worrying if the other clients “know” or will “find out.” LGBTQ people are encouraged to be “out” in a manner that is appropriate with their respective comfort levels and we respect the choices of those individuals, as do our other clients.

The addiction to drugs is definitely difficult thing for any individual to deal with and often, addiction tends to leads to the decline of a person’s well-being, financial security, and health. Drug addicts have a hard time keeping a job, their families suffer the consequences, and sometimes the addicts find themselves either in trouble with the law, or homeless on the street. The delicate issue of treating drug abusers has been discussed in great detail in our country for decades. There are those that say we should buckle down on drug users and increase our illegal drug enforcement in order to put all those drug-using criminals behind bars. However, those that just want to lock up every drug addict are ignoring the fact that drug addiction is a sickness, and without proper treatment, the user will find themselves back on the streets using drugs once they are out of jail.

The Sex and Love Addictions have been called like many things, like compulsive sexual behavior or sexual impulsivity. This is because this addiction is characterized by a preoccupation with sex, and having a strong desire for sex or to be in love, a sense of shame exists due to the inability to control sexual impulses. One major goal for a recovery treatment is to examine and deeply understand the underlying sources of addictive thoughts and behaviors so the patient can rediscover natural love and sexual expression, and transform their lives.

Self-Help programs are mainly about awakening a little more each day to the power of the choices we make and the most real way we can do this is through the presence and help of others – especially those who are, and who have been, in the same situation as ourselves. This is about feeling and being part of a caring family. The place where we have learnt from one another and teach one another how to take personal responsibility for our own actions and emotions. We believe that real learning and personal growth is achieved by practising the principles of unconditional love and acceptance.

To classify chronic pain programs, there are many addicts who do not start on the road of addiction by experimenting with drugs. There are thousands upon thousands of Americans are prescribed pain medication each year, for everything from tooth pain to cancer. Some of them become addicted to the pain medication. As their tolerance to the drug increases, opiate addicts begin to seek other means of getting high. Some of them will find a way to obtain more and more of the same drug, while others will end up using different drugs, even heroin or other street drugs. People often started programmes use because of pain for those who suffer from chronic pain, as with a herniated disk for example, there is often a great fear of what life will be like without pain pills.

For those drug dealers who are looking for making a significant amount of money in a short period of time, crystal meth seems to provide the perfect answer. With an investment of about $150, CBS News reported in 2010, a dealer can definitely produce a stash of drugs worth about $10,000 on the market. While this work might benefit the dealer, allowing that person to reap huge financial rewards in just a short period of time that work can also be disastrous for the buyers of those drugs. Crystal meth is terribly addictive, and getting over that addiction can take years of hard work and dedication.

Prescription drug abuse is the use of a medication without a prescription, in a way other than as prescribed, or for the experience or feelings elicited. According to several national surveys, prescription medications, such as those used to treat pain, attention deficit disorders, and anxiety, are being abused at a rate second only to marijuana among illicit drug users. The consequences of this abuse have been steadily worsening, reflected in increased treatment admissions, emergency room visits, and overdose deaths.

Methadone is basically a synthetic opioid drug with a variety of uses, like treating chronic pain or persistent coughs. However methadone is perhaps best popular for its role as a treatment tool for heroin or prescription drug addiction. But its street name “liquid handcuffs” is a nod to its addictive traits. Methadone greatly helps addicts quit heroin and other drugs in two distinct ways: first, addicts who take methadone can reduce or eliminate the withdrawal symptoms associated with opiate detox.

Faith based facilities take an approach of alcohol and drug addiction from a spiritual perspective and these centers view your addiction as an attempt to compensate for an inner sense of spiritual emptiness they teach about how to strengthen spiritual foundation in order to help you overcome your need for alcohol or drugs. In most cases, spiritual rehab centers provide the same therapy and tools to help you stay sober as non-spiritual facilities. The difference is that faith-based rehabilitation centers also teach spiritual principles and view your relationship with God as an important aspect of healing, while secular facilities may not.

The holistic drug rehab is a centered on the belief that the individuals battling addiction are people who are in need and deserve treatment for their entire being and not just their dependence. The probability of sustaining lifelong recovery substantially is greater when treatment services are focused on individualized basis and systemically integrated. We maximize this probability by tailoring each client’s treatment plans and providing as many therapeutic services as possible, so each client can restore and balance his or her mind, body and spirit.

Relapse prevention is mainly focused on planning and commitment to following that plan. This is because there are numerous warning signs before a relapse, a key part of a relapse prevention plan is being honest about what events might trigger a relapse, and determining how to respond ahead of time. Reviewing potential relapse “triggers” and appropriate responses is something that should include those aiding the addict’s recovery effort, such as a counsellor or 12-step program sponsor. Successful recovery requires the help of others, and relapse prevention is perhaps the best example.

Addiction is a chronic and often misunderstood illness. Many believe addiction and drug and alcohol substance abuse is a sign of moral weakness, while stopping the addictive behavior is simply a matter of willpower. Scientific studies, however, have proven this is not the case. When an individual engages in compulsive behavior such as drug or alcohol substance abuse - despite harmful consequences to themselves and those around them - they are likely struggling with a chronic illness called addiction.
