Community meeting on new approach to addiction

A meeting is planned, where a panel will discuss the possibility of creating a Knox County Recovery Collaborative, modeled after the Lincoln County Recovery Collaborative to our immediate south.

The panel will consist of Knox County officials and leaders of Knox County nonprofit organizations involved in addressing the local addiction epidemic. While additional panelists have not yet confirmed participation, the current panel includes Dave Miramant (Maine state senator representing Senate District 12); Danielle Mayer (Maine Behavioral Healthcare); Sarah Parnell (“Groups” – an addiction practice in Rockland); Ira Mandel (Mid-Coast Recovery Coalition); and John Jeffers (retired MBH licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselor and board member of MCRC).

Two years ago, to address the drug addiction epidemic in Lincoln County, all Lincoln County law enforcement and corrections departments came together with addiction treatment providers, hospitals, the YMCA, and other community organizations. They formed the Lincoln County Recovery Collaborative to offer “proactive outreach to people with drug addictions by law enforcement officers” and others participants of the LCRC network.
